THE STAFF AT EDELWEISS
James Gibson is the
Chief Executive Officer and owner of Edelweiss Pharmaceuticals. He is a
pharmacist who has trained his focus on phytopharmaceuticals after an
involvement with orthodox medicines. His particular interests lie in strategic management and new product development.
He has an M.Phil. in Futures Studies, an MBA from the University of
Stellenbosch Graduate School of Business, and a Bachelor of Pharmacy
from the University of Cape Town. He is married with three daughters.
He has a fondness for mountain climbing and golf, as well as oil and
water colour painting.
Phaldie Cassiem
is in charge of Quality Control at Edelweiss. He has a National Diploma in
Analytical Chemistry and has been involved for many years in the regulatory
environment of pharmaceutical manufacture. Phaldie is an experienced marathon
runner and is a veteran of Cape Town's Two Oceans Marathon as well as
Durban's Comrade's Marathon.
Sheila van Straten
is the
Bookkeeper for Edelweiss. She is responsible for the management of the
administrative division. She is a master manufacturer of designer Christmas
cakes and makes hundreds every year.

CERTIFICATION
Edelweiss Pharmaceuticals strives to maintain the highest
standards of Complementary Medicine manufacture and adheres to
the PIC /S quality assurance program, as required by the
Medicines Control Council (MCC) of South Africa, the South
African equivalent of the FDA. Additionally, this
also means that all cosmetic products made by Edelweiss
are manufactured under pharmaceutical conditions.
Edelweiss is in possession of the

OPERATIONAL SETTING
Edelweiss
Pharmaceuticals is situated in the magnificent Constantia Valley of Cape
Town. The beautiful vineyards of Uitsig and Klein Constantia with their
famous restaurants and wine tasting facilities are no more than 10
minutes away from the factory. At its northern end Table Mountain looms over the valley and provides
forested cover for long Sunday strolls in the warm summer months. In
winter, it drives the winds from the Atlantic up over it, bringing the
traditional cold, wet winters that are a feature of the Cape.
